Why Uplifting Others is the Ultimate Power Move

Sharrin Fuller

There are two types of people in this world: the ones who lift others up (let’s call them Supports) and the ones who seem to find joy in dragging others down (the Haters, or maybe the Drags – not the fun kind). And let’s be real here—you know exactly which camp you’re in.

But here’s the thing: there’s absolutely no reason not to CELEBRATE someone else’s wins. None. Nada. Zilch. Your neighbor’s new car? Celebrate it. Your colleague’s promotion? Cheer for them. That person on Instagram who launched their dream business? Clap louder. Someone else’s success doesn’t take away from your own. There’s no cosmic scoreboard keeping track of who’s ahead. If anything, their wins should motivate and inspire you to keep going.

If someone else’s success feels like it’s dragging you down, then it’s time for a hard look in the mirror. That’s not about them; that’s about you. The reality is, the people who are truly happy, confident, and fulfilled don’t waste their energy on jealousy or negativity. Instead, they’re out there lifting others up, offering a hand, and cheering from the sidelines.

Let’s talk about competition for a second—because honestly, it’s an illusion. There are no competitors. Just colleagues. Peers. People doing what you do, but with their own flavor, their own secret sauce. And that’s a good thing! Imagine how boring and stale the world would be if everyone did things exactly the same way. Instead of seeing others as rivals, start seeing them as people you can learn from, collaborate with, or even just appreciate from afar. The pie is big enough for all of us.

Here’s my challenge to you: start uplifting others. Instead of silently seething when someone else achieves something, say “Congrats” and mean it. Instead of trying to drag someone down, ask them how they did it and learn from them. Lead with positivity, and watch how much lighter and happier your life feels. Because here’s the truth—when you lift others, you lift yourself.

That being said, I want to thank my friend Nick Boscia for the AMAZING Balanced CPA shirt!

Support others first, and I promise everything else will fall into place. Karma’s real, y’all, and she’s watching.
